Yvonne Craig was an actress best known for her role as Batgirl on the iconic 1960s ABC series Batman. Craig joined the show in its third and final season opposite star Adam West.

She originated the role in 1967, playing both the masked sidekick and her alter ego, librarian Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner Gordon, played by Neil Hamilton. Craig also did all of her own stunts and motorcycle riding for the series.

Additionally, she was known for playing Marta, an Orion Slave Girl opposite William Shatner as Captain Kirk in a third-season episode of Star Trek. She also had small appearances on the television series Perry Mason, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, 77 Sunset Strip, Dr. Kildare, Wagon Train, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., My Favorite Martian, My Three Sons, It Takes a Thief, Mod Squad, Kojak, Emergency!, The Six Million Dollar Man, Starsky and Hutch and Fantasy Island. In 2009 she voiced the recurring character Grandma on the animated Nickelodeon series Olivia.

Craig began her career at age 17 as the youngest member of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. She traveled with the troupe for three years and was discovered by director John Ford’s son Patrick, a talent agent. She was soon cast in the 1959 film The Young Land opposite Patrick Wayne, the son of John Wayne.

In 2000, she wrote a memoir, From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond.

Craig died August 17, 2015, in Pacific Palisades, California. She was 78.
