W. Russell Barry

W. Russell Barry was an American television executive.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Barry landed a job in 1961 selling radio ads for CBS, before supervising network AM stations during their conversion to all-news.

From there he joined Fox as their vice president of network sales and would rise to become the president of 20th Century Fox Television, responsible for production and worldwide distribution of network and syndicated programming.

He oversaw television shows such as M*A*S*H, Paper Chase, Trapper John, M.D., and Dinah!

In 1995, Barry became chairman of Turner Program Services and was responsible for the MGM film and television library and programs including The Lazarus Man and The Wonder Years.

He also brokered the deal that put CNN into airports and hotels around the world.

Barry died August 26, 2020, in Palm Beach, Florida. He was 84.
