In addition to her work as an actress, Gad was a celebrated painter and assemblage collage artist who rose to prominence in the Los Angeles art scene in the 1970s. Her work explores themes of trauma and survival — illustrated in her mixed-media collage series juxtaposing vintage pin-ups with rescue animals.

In 2019 her work appeared as part of "Stuck Together" at Track 16 Gallery, Downtown Los Angeles.
