Roger Moore

Roger Moore was a British actor best known for his role as James Bond in seven of the 007 films, beginning with Live and Let Die in 1973 and ending with A View to Kill in 1985. Moore had the longest run in the role, and was the oldest Bond to take on the role, making his debut at age at 45.

The actor was already a television star when he signed on to play the famous spy. Over the course of his career he appeared in numerous TV shows, including leads as the title role in Ivanhoe and the debonair Simon Templar in The Saint, as well as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Alaskans, Maverick, The Persuaders, The Dream Team and Alias.

Moore got his start in entertainment as an extra on the 1945 film Caesar and Cleopatra, starring Vivien Leigh. He went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and landed parts in West End theater productions.

He was made a Commander of the British Empire in 1999 and was knighted in 2003.

Moore died May 23, 2017, in Crans-Montana, Valais, Switzerland. He was 89.
