Richard Manginsay was an animation assistant director and layout artist who was best known for working on the animated television series The Simpsons, Family Guy and Futurama.

Manginsay earned his first credit in 1997 working on the animated film Anastasia, about the last surviving child of the Russian royal family, as a character clean-up artist, the animator who traces the rough drawings which then become inked and painted. Two years later, he worked again as a clean-up artist on Bartok the Magnificent, a straight-to-video release that featured a character spun-off from Anastasia.

From 2001 to ’03 Manginsay worked as a character layout artist on the Fox animated sitcom Futurama, where the show resided before its move to Comedy Central. He continued working for Fox from 2006 to 2015, on 86 episodes of the long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons, as a character layout artist and character designer. He also worked on 10 episodes as an assistant director, and on one as a prop designer. In 2012 he was nominated for an Outstanding Animated Program Emmy Award for The Simpsons.

Manginsay was born in the Philippines, where he began his career as an “in-betweener” artist at Fil-Cartoons, drawing the frames in between the key art. He worked on Tom & Jerry, Ren & Stimpy, Captain Planet and Young Robin Hood.

Manginsay died August 13, 2015, in Calabasas, California. He was 43.
