Richard D. Trentlage

Richard D. Trentlage was an advertising jingle writer best known for penning the Oscar Meyer weiner song.

The catchy tune and lyrics, which began, “Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener,” served as the company’s jingle from 1963 to 2010.

The song features Trentalage on the banjo ukulele, his wife on the standup bass and his son and daughter singing the lyrics.

Trentlage also wrote jingles for McDonald’s, the National Safety Council and V8.

He died September 21, 2016, in Libertyville, Illinois. He was 87.
