He was best known within the entertainment industry as stage manager for Soul Train, the syndicated pop/R&B music dance show, as well as executive assistant to its host and executive producer, Don Cornelius.
Rutherford worked on many different awards shows and sporting events, including numerous broadcasts of the Grammy Awards, and the Super Bowl.
He also worked on variety and talk shows hosted by Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Harvey, and Carson Daly.
Rutherford died March 10, 2019, in Los Angeles, California. He was 66.
