Michael Nyqvist was a Swedish performer best known for his role in the original Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as Mikael Blomkvist, played by Daniel Craig in the U.S. version. The trilogy, based on the series of books by Stieg Larsson, included the two sequels The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.
Nyqvist also appeared in the films John Wick, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, Colonia, Hunter Killer and Frank and Lola.
His work in television included episodes of Wallander, Zero Hour, 100 Code and the six-part limited series Madiba, based on the life of Nelson Mandela.
Nyqvist died June 27, 2017, in Stockholm, Sweden. He was 56.
