Maury Laws was an American television and film composer.
Laws first picked up a guitar at 12 and by 16 was performing professionally and collaborating with orchestras. He made appearances on the Perry Como, Milton Berle and Ed Sullivan television shows.
As musical director for Rankin-Bass productions, Laws conducted and scored music for a number of animated features and television specials, including Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, and, most notably, the 1964 holiday television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which featured new songs by Rudolph composer Johnny Marks.

Laws was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1979 for the music of The Hobbit, an animated musical television special based on the 1937 book of the same name by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Laws’s work has been performed by Burl Ives, Fred Astaire, Ethel Merman, Danny Kaye, Judy Collins, Angela Lansbury and Art Carney, among many others.
Laws died March 28, 2019, in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was 95.
