Obituary: 

John von Soosten was a programming executive for New York television and radio stations and was the former president of NATPE, the National Association of Television Program Executives.

Von Soosten began his career as an engineer at New York’s WOR-TV, then moved on to the station WNYW-TV. He served as an assistant production manager, working his way up to vice president and eventually the director of programming. The station went on to become the flagship owned-and-operated station of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox network. After WNYW, Von Soosten moved to Katz Television as senior vice president and director of programming.

In 1985, he was elected president of NATPE, during the expansion of the national first-run syndication business. He also served on NATPE’s board of directors and on its executive committee.
