Joel Bender was an American director, writer, and editor.

He is best known as a documentary filmmaker and for editing the reality television adventure series The Amazing Race.

A student of the School of the Visual Arts in New York, Bender was involved in all aspects of storytelling: writing, directing, and editing the film Karla (2006) and writing and directing Gas Pump Girls (1979).

Bender also co-wrote and produced the documentary The True Adventures of Raoul Walsh (2014) and worked as an editor on the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Sweet Valley High, and Joe Millionaire.

Bender died April 24, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. He was 72.
