With Medina, Pollack helped to create The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which was inspired by Medina’s experiences living with Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr. while attending Beverly Hills High School. The show, which starred Will Smith, aired from 1990 to 1996 on NBC.

He went on to direct the feature films — Above the Rim, Booty Call and Lost & Found.

Pollack died December 23, 2013, in Hermosa Beach, California. He was 54.
