George Jonas was an author and producer best known for writing the book Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team, the basis for the 2005 film Munich. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Munich starred Eric Bana, Daniel Craig and Geoffrey Rush, and was nominated for five Oscars.

Released in 1984, Vengeance told the story of Yuval Aviv, known in both the book and film as Avner, a Mossad officer who is recruited to lead a small team into Europe to assassinate suspected PLO and Black September militants.

Jonas also served as the writer, director and producer of the movie Our Lady of Compassion, a surrealist foreign film about a rich couple's employee who cheats everybody in town. Additionally, Jonas produced and wrote for the Canadian television series Scales of Justice, which recreated the stories of Canada’s most famous criminals.

In 1986, he served as a producer on the telefilm Sword of Gideon. Also based on his book Vengeance, the telefilm aired first in Canada, and then in the U.S. on HBO.

Jonas died January 10, 2016, in Canada. He was 80.
