Francis Xavier "X" Atencio

Francis Xavier "X" Atencio was an animator and Imagineer for the Walt Disney Company. He is best known for his work on the classic animated films Pinocchio and Fantasia, and for his contributions to the Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion rides at Disney Parks.

Atencio also worked on the television series Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, The Mickey Mouse Club and House of Mouse, as well as the Oscar-nominated films Noah's Ark, A Symposium on Popular Songs and Jack and Old Mac.

Additionally, he worked on the stop-motion sequences for 1961’s The Parent Trap, Babes in Toyland and Mary Poppins.

Atencio also wrote the script for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and co-wrote the now-classic song "Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)."

He was named a Disney Legend in 1996. 

Atencio died September 10, 2017. He was 98.
