Don Marando

Don Marando was an American make-up artist and hair stylist.

After serving in the Army and Counter Intelligence Corps, he attended Indiana University in South Bend, where he also taught make-up for stage, television, and film. Beginning in the mid-1960s, Marando began to get work in Hollywood, requiring him to relocate to Los Angeles in 1968.

Shortly after his arrival in Hollywood, Marando became Bob Hope’s personal make-up artist, accompanying Hope on his USO tours and personal appearances all over the world. Marando also worked with Hope on over one hundred of his television specials.

Other television work includes episodes of M*A*S*H, The White Shadow, Fantasy Island, The Dukes of Hazzard, T.J. Hooker, and Jake and the Fatman.

Marando did make-up for numerous celebrity attendees of Ronald Reagan’s 1981 presidential inauguration, including Hope, Johnny Carson, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Reagan.

Marando’s other celebrity clients included Milton Berle, Art Carney, George Burns, George Jessel, Danny Thomas, and Fred Astaire.

Marando died April 7, 2018, in South Bend, Indiana. He was 89.
