Cliff Dektar

Cliff Dektar was a public relations executive and a former Television Academy governor. He served three terms as governor of the Academy's public relations peer group, and was a key figure in Southern California’s public relations community for more than 40 years.

Dektar was also a member of the original staff of the Los Angeles Mirror newspaper, and later joined the staff of ABC TV’s Press Information Department in Hollywood, where he was responsible for the premieres of The Rifleman, Man With a Camera and The Detectives. He also worked on ABC Sports Division, where he worked closely with Roone Arledge. After leaving ABC TV, he was in charge of publicity for the CBS country music series Hee Haw, for 15 years.

He also served as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Public Relations Society of America; served with the Public Relations Society of America; was one of the founders of the Entertainment Publicists Professional Society and the Television Publicity Executives Committee; was a founder of the USC Journalism Alumni Association; and was a director of the Los Angeles chapter, Society of Professional Journalists.
