What is a Peer Group Governor?

How Do You Become One?

Are you interested in becoming a Peer Group Governor on the Television Academy Board?

Peer Group Governors are an integral part of the leadership of the Television Academy. They are your Peer Group's representatives on the Academy's Board of Governors. The Board meets regularly to oversee the business of the Academy, including setting the Academy's strategic direction and annual budget, reviewing the Academy's ongoing membership activities and initiatives, and deliberating and approving changes to the rules and procedures around the Emmy Awards.

Any National Active Member who meets the qualifications may petition to run for Peer Group Governor.

To receive a Peer Group Governor Petition and Credentials Review Form, contact Victoria Smart, Director of Membership at or 818.754.2884.

Both the Petition and Review Form must be filed at the Television Academy office no later than noon on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Qualifications to run:

  1. Each candidate for Governor must be a National Active Member of the Peer Group for which they are seeking office, and they must meet the current Membership Requirements for Active Status (without regard to Body of Work) in this peer group. (For current Membership Requirements, please click here.)

  2. Each candidate must have at some time served as a Governor, an Officer, on the Executive Committee, on a Peer Group Executive Committee or on a Standing Advisory Committee (Activities, Audit & Finance, Bylaws, Creative Arts Emmy Awards Show, Daytime Emmy Awards, Diversity, Engineering Emmy Awards, Hall of Fame Selection, Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, Membership, or Primetime Emmy Awards Show).
