Lois Vossen, Documentary Programming

Lois Vossen is founding and executive producer of Independent Lens on PBS, the largest showcase for independent documentary on television. She's responsible for commissioning new films, programming the series, and working with filmmakers on content. Recent documentaries she co-produced include I Am Not Your Negro, TOWER, Newtown, Tell Them We Are Rising and True Conviction. Independent Lens films have received 13 Emmy Awards, 17 Peabody Awards, 5 duPont-Columbia Journalism Awards, and 8 Academy Award nominations. The series received the 2013, 2014, and 2015 IDA Award for Best Series.

Previously, Vossen was associate managing director at Sundance Institute. She has served on the jury at SXSW, DOC New Zealand, Toronto International Film Festival, Palm Spring International Film Festival, Shanghai Festival, among others.



Independent Lens films include Have You Heard From Johannesburg, Lion in the House, Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, The Great Invisible, The Weather Underground, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Young@Heart, Waste Land, Hell and Back Again,  The Invisible War, The Trials of Muhammad Ali, God Loves Uganda, (T)ERROR, Best of Enemies, Newtown, TOWER, I Am Not Your Negro, among many others.
