Remembering Haskell Wexler

Two-time Academy Award-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler has died.

Wexler won Oscars in both black & white and color, for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) and Bound for Glory (1976). He also shot much of Days of Heaven (1978).

In 1993, Wexler was awarded a Lifetime Achivement award by the cinematographer's guild, the American Society of Cinematographers. He received five Oscar nominations for his cinematography, plus one Emmy Award nomination for 61*, in a career that spanned six decades.

In addition to his masterful cinematography, Wexler directed the seminal late 60s film Medium Cool, and directed a recent short film retrospective of that film called Medium Cool Revisited.

Wexler was still working at the time of his death, with two films in production.

Wexler is survived by his wife and three children.
