WIlson moved from standup comedy to a successful career in both television and film.

Yvette Wilson, an actress who starred on the 1990s comedy series Moesha and its spin-off, The Parkers, died June 14, 2012, in Los Angeles. She was 48.

According to news reports, the cause was cervical cancer.

Wilson, who began her career as a comedian, got her start when she lost a bet and had to perform as a stand-up comic at a friend’s club.

Her other television credits included a regular role on the comedy series Thea, as well as episodes of The Jamie Foxx Show and In Living Color.

She also appeared in the feature films Friday, Blankman, House Party 2, House Party 3 and Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

Wilson’s passing was acknowledged on a website established to assist with her health care by Jeffrey Pittle, a close friend: “It is with a heavy heart that I can verify that Yvette passed away last evening after a lengthy and hard battle. She was a fighter to the end, and her talent, humor and amazing friendship will be sorely missed. She will live on through her awesome body of work.”

Pittle asked that people continue to contribute through the site to support Wilson’s family.
