Tissa David, Master Animator

David was a pioneer among female animators, prolific an respected in a field dominated by men.

Tissa David, an animator whose talent and achievements helped to open doors for other women in the field, died August 21, 2012 in New York City. She was 91.

According to news reports, the cause was a brain tumor.

One of the most respected animators in the business for many years, David was one of the few women to flourish in the field.

Her best known work included the 1977 animated feature Raggedy Ann and Andy, for which she animated Ann.

For television, her work included Noah’s Animals, Simple Gifts, Kablam!, Between the Lions and Independent Lens.

She was most recently animation director on the feature Poe, scheduled for release next year.
