Malachi Throne, Busy Actor for Half a Century

Throne appeared in dozens of popular series from the late ”50s through 2009, from Naked City and The Untouchables to Melrose Place and The West Wing.

Malachi Throne, an actor who worked widely in television for 50 years, including a regular role on the spy drama It Takes Thief, died March 13, 2013, in Los Angeles. He was 84.

Born in New York City on December 1, 1928, he got his start as a singer and stage performer. He later moved to Los Angeles, where he was active in the Theatre West company.

He made hi TV debut in a 1959 production of Billy Budd on The DuPont Show of the Month and went on to appear in dozens of series, including Naked City, The Untouchables, Death Valley Days, 77 Sunset Strip, Combat!, Perry Mason, Batman, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Fugitive, Rawhide, I Spy, The Big Valley and, more recently, Law & Order, Melrose Place, Babylon 5 and The West Wing.

Throne was a series regular on Ben Casey and It Takes a Thief, and he appeared in several installments of the Star Trek franchise, including the original, starring William Shatner.
