Jack J. Hayes, Oscar-Nominated Composer With Dozens of Memorable Film and TV Credits

Jack J. Hayes, a composer and orchestrator who earned two Oscar nominations and created music for such enduring television series as Gunsmoke and Happy Days, died August 24, 2011, in in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was 92.
According to news reports, he died of natural causes.
In addition to his television credits, Hayes worked on numerous high-profile movies, including Taxi Driver, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III, The Incredibles and Up.
His Oscar nominations came in 1964, for adapting the musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and 1985, for contributing to The Color Purple.
