Herbert Lom, Actor Known for Pink Panther Films, More

Born in Prague, Lom lived for many years in Great Britain, working in both film and television.

Herbert Lom, an actor best known for playing Charles Dreyfus,the long-suffering boss of Peter Sellers's Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther films, died September 27, 2012, i London. He was 95.

Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Lom moved to the U.K. at the outset of World War II. he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and went on to appear in more than 100 feature films, including The Ladykillers, Spartacus and El Cid.

He played Napoleon Bonaparte in two movies: The Young Mr. Pitt (1942), starring Robert Donat, and War and Peace (1956), starring Audrey Hepburn and Henry Fonda.

He first appeared as police chief Dreyfus in A Shot In the Dark (1964), followed by The Return of the Pink Panther (1975), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) and Son of the Pink Panther (1993),

Lom also worked in television in both Britain and the U.S., with credits that included The Errol Flynn Theatre, Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Lace, Scoop and Marple: The Murder at the Vicarage.
