Frank Thornton, Co-Star of BBC Comedy Are You Being Served?

On the long-running British series, Thornton played floor manager Captain Peacock.

Frank Thornton, an English actor best known foe the long-running BBC comedy series Are You Being Served?, died March 16, 2013, in London. He was 92. Thornton began taking acting classes while working in insurance, which led to stage roles in the early 1940s. After serving in the Royal Air Force during WWII, he returned to acting and began working in TV in the 1950s. In addition to Are You Being Served?, which made him a star in the U.K., his credits included The Granville Melodramas, William Tell, The Four Just Men, Benny Hill, HMS Paradise, The World of Beachcomber, The Reg Varney Revue, Armchair Theatre, Steptoe and Son, Jane and Last of the Summer Wine.
