Fran Bascom, Renowned Casting Director for Dozens of TV Series and Movies

Bascom's long list of television credits included Lou Grant, Evening Shade, Designing Women and Days of Our Lives.

Fran Bascom a longtime casting director who worked in television for more than 25 years, died June 2, 2013, in Burbank, California.

According to news repots, Bascom had not been ill, but had been feeling under the weather in recent weeks, and was hospitalized shortly before her passing.

Bascom began her casting career in the mid-1970s with the Saturday morning children's series Isis and Ark II.

In the years that followed she cast numerous other primetime series, both comedies and dramas. They included Lou Grant, Bring ’Em Back Alive, Mama Malone, Stir Crazy, Melba, Evening Shade, Designing Women, Woman of the House, Blue Thunder. Emeril and Days of Our Lives, where she worked from 1998-2007.

Bascom also cast many made-for-TV movies, such as The Boy Who Drank Too Much, Thornwell and Life of the Party: The Story of Beatrice and her final credit, the Hank Williams biopic The Last RIde, which aired in 2012.

In addition, she worked on three feature films: Pieces of Eight, Jacks or Better and Paradise Lost.

Beyond her television and film work, Bascom, an avid theater aficionado, volunteered her time to local L.A. theaters.

During her career, she was nominated for more than a dozen Artios Awards from the Casting Society of America.
