EmmyTVLegends.org Adds Encyclopedia of Television

Television Academy Foundation website and Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications team to enhance Television Archive.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation announced today that EmmyTVLegends.org , the new web portal offering free, public access to the Archive of American Television video collection, has begun integrating the text of the definitive Encyclopedia of Television authored by Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC).

EmmyTVLegends.org launched this month with an unparalleled collection of long-form video interviews with hundreds of influential figures from the television industry. The newly integrated Encyclopedia brings extensive additional information about the Archive’s interview subjects to the portal, including the history of popular series, key dates, and background on performers, crew and controversies, all catalogued within the vast library of EmmyTVLegends.org.

“The addition of the Encyclopedia of Television to our video archive on EmmyTVLegends.org tremendously enhances the user experience on our site,” said Karen Herman, Director of the Archive of American Television. “Thanks to the generosity of MBC, we’re fulfilling both of our missions by giving TV fans everywhere a detailed and comprehensive look at the people and shows they love.”

The MBC Encyclopedia of Television includes over 1,000 original essays from more than 250 contributors and examines specific programs and people, historic moments, trends and major policy disputes related to television. The full Encyclopedia is available at Museum.tv, and relevant articles can be found on EmmyTVLegends.org alongside interview videos from the Archive of American Television.

"The Museum of Broadcast Communications is delighted to join with the Archive of American Television in providing access to our Encyclopedia of Television,” said Bruce DuMont, Founder and President, MBC. “Combining the Encyclopedia with the Archive’s oral histories creates a unique and compelling online experience for television fans and scholars alike."
