Ed Koch, Former NYC Mayor and Television Personality

In addition to his political career, Koch appeared in numerous films and TV series, including Sex and the City and Spin City, and he hosted The People's Court.

Ed Koch, former Mayor of new York City, died February 1, 2013, at York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. He was 88.

According to news repots, the cause was congestive heart failure.

Koch was an attorney before serving in Congress from 1968 to 1977, when he ran for mayor of New York. He served three terms before being defeated by David Dinkins in the Democratic primary in 1989.

After leaving politics, Koch enjoyed worked as a radio host and newspaper columnist and made a number of film and television appearances as himself in feature films — including The First Wives Club and The Muppets Take Manhattan — and on such television shows as Sex in the City and Spin City.

From 1995-97 the judge on The People’s Court and he made several appearances on Saturday Night Live.

He was the subject of a 2012 documentary titled Koch, directed by Neil Barsky.
