Don Brinkley, Writer-Producer and Creator of Trapper John, M.D.

Brinkley worked on several hit shows, including Perry Mason, The Untouchables, Ben Casey, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ironside, The Name of the Game, The FBI and Medical Center.

Don Brinkley, a writer and producer who created the popular CBS series Trapper John, M.D., died July 14, 2012, in Sag Harbor, N.Y. He was 91.

Brinkley was the adopted father of supermodel and occasional actress Christie Brinkley.

A native of the Bronx, Brinkley began his career at CBS Radio News and began working in television in the early 1950s.

His early credits included Highway Patrol, Have Gun — Will Travel, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Bat Masterson and The Fugitive.

Trapper John, M.D., inspired by a character in M*A*S*H, aired on CBS from 1979-86.
