Coyne Steven Sanders, Author of Show Business Books

Sanders, an expert on Judy Garland, wrote an acclaimed book about the actress, as well as books about Desliu Productions, The Dick Van Dyke Show and more.

Coyne Steven Sanders, an author and entertainment journalist who wrote books about classic television, died February 7 in Chicago. He was 56.

Sanders, an expert on the life and work of singer-actress Judy Garland, wrote a well received book about the star's television show, titled Rainbow’s End: The Judy Garland Show (Morrow, 1990).

He also assisted with retrospective projects related to Garland, including the CD release of many of her Capitol recordings. In addition, he oversaw the DVD debut of her television shows in a series for Pioneer.

His other books of note included Desilu: The Story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz (Morrow, 1993), which he cowrote with Tom Gilbert.

In collaboration with writer Ginny Weissman, he authored The Dick Van Dyke Show: Anatomy of a Classic and Champagne Music: The Lawrence Welk Show.

Sanders, who also worked as a journalist, wrote for the Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Emmy magazine.

For television, he wrote for the 1982 drama series Crisis Counselor.
