MTV Movie Awards to Honor "Student Filmmaker Award" Winner in June

New York, NY – Hot on the heels of the Academy of Television Arts & Science's College Television Awards Gala, recently held at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles, comes MTV's college network mtvU with another opportunity for collegians across the United States, the Student Filmmaker Award competition.

Set to be inaugurated this June at the star-studded 2006 MTV Movie Awards, the SFA contest bestows national television and webwide exposure upon the winning student, along with a total prize package worth up to $10,000.

University of Iowa student Scott Beck won mtvU's "Best Film on Campus" contest last year, landing a development deal with MTV Films and bragging rights for a lifetime. mtvU served as the Television Academy's media partner for the recent 2006 College Television Awards.

The prevailing filmmaker will receive a trip to Los Angeles to attend the telecast and be honored during the ceremony.

Along with a multi-platform development deal with mtvU, the winner receives an opportunity to film a segment about the experience for broadcast on mtvU and at mtvU.com's "mtvU Über."

The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate college students, 18 years of age and older, nationwide.

The SFA winner will be determined through online voting at mtvU.com and MTV.com – right alongside the other MTV Movie Awards nominees.
