Release: Award-Winning Exec Producer Don Mischer to Produce this Year's Primetime Emmy® Awards”

Producer-director Don Mischer will produce this year’s 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards for NBC, airing live coast-to-coast for the first time in over 30 years on Sunday, August 29.

NBC and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that Primetime Emmy® Award-winning executive producer/director Don Mischer (“We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial”) will produce the network’s exclusive broadcast of this year’s “62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards” airing live coast-to-coast for the first time in over 30 years on Sunday, August 29 (5-8 p.m. PT, 8-11 p.m. ET). Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios, and John Shaffner, Chairman and CEO, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, made the joint announcement. “Don is a legend in television for producing and directing important event programming,” said Telegdy. “His award-winning resume speaks for itself and we are pleased to have him on our team as we prepare for NBC’s Emmy broadcast." “Don produced a Primetime Emmy telecast last year that hit it out of the park,” said Shaffner. "We know he can creatively build on that accomplishment. We are very fortunate to be able to work with him again this year.” This year marks Mischer’s 10th time as executive producer of the Primetime Emmy broadcast. He is an internationally acclaimed producer and director of television and premier live events, including last year’s “61st Primetime Emmy® Awards,” numerous Tony Awards broadcasts and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games. As a result, Mischer has earned 15 Emmy Awards over his varied career. In addition, he has won a record 10 Directors Guild Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, two NAACP Image Awards, a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting and Europe’s prestigious Golden Rose of Montreux. Mischer’s other producer/director credits include the Super Bowl Halftime Shows with Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Prince, the Kennedy Center Honors, the 2004 Democratic National Convention, “PBS Dance in America,” the 100th Anniversary of Carnegie Hall, “Motown 25,” the Presidential Inaugural Concert for Barack Obama, and Barbra Streisand’s Millennium Concert in Las Vegas. Among his many events, Mischer also has produced specials with Bono, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Sting, Yo Yo Ma, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, the Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Hudson and Gregory Hines. “The 62nd Primetime Emmy® Awards” will be produced by Don Mischer Productions. Nominations for the awards will be announced Thursday, July 8 at 5:40 a.m. (PT) from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre at the headquarters for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, California.
