Social Buzz: Top TV Shows, December 14 - 20, 2014

What were we watching leading up to the holidays?

Television Academy & Unified

We made a list and checked it twice, and found out which shows were naughty or nice last week — on social media, that is. In honor of the coming end of the year, we decided to focus on the finales of some much-loved series. Some said goodbye for a few months, while others sadly said goodbye for good. This week’s picks included Ascension, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, White Collar, The Colbert Report and The Voice. We wanted to know:

  • Did the thrilling finale of the miniseries Ascension send social engagement spacebound?

  • Were fans enthralled by Craig Ferguson’s very last Late, Late show as he paved the way for new host James Corden?

  • Did Neal’s latest heist and staged death in the fifth season finale of White Collar get viewers talking?

  • Ten years and 1,447 episodes later, Stephen Colbert finally said goodbye on The Colbert Report. How did fans respond?

  • Did the seventh season finale of The Voice get fans singing on social?

The Social Totals

The Voice took center stage on social, rising above the rest of the competition, probably due to their massive following on both Facebook and Twitter. The show also got top honors for the fall season, placing 5th in overall engagements.

Active Audiences

Now that we’ve measured volume, let’s take a look at efficiency. Looking at the number of social engagements per 1K users, we see that Ascension has a small but more engaged audience. The show’s fans and followers were so active, they helped it go straight to the top on both social networks, with 630.7 Facebook engagements per 1K fans and 912.6 Twitter engagements per 1K followers.
