May Day: 14 New 'Arrested Development' Eps Hit Netflix May 26

The wait is almost over, Bluth family fans.

After seven long years of clamoring for its return, Arrested Development fans have only a few more measly months to wait for more of the family’s off-centered antics when the all-new season arrives on Netflix on May 26, 2013.

Netflix will reportedly release 14 new Arrested episodes at once, just as the company did on February 1 with its first season of original, political nail-biter House of Cards, starring award-winning actor Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

Word of the return of the critically-lauded comedy got the Tweetersphere buzzing when Netflix chief Ted Sarando first confirmed the re-launch of the former Fox network show – which ended unceremoniously in 2006 after three seasons – with the nearly entire cast back in tow.

Star Jason Bateman spoke of the show's "new format" with journalists at the Television Critics Association winter 2013 press tour in Pasadena:

“A blogger or somebody wrote that this was Season 4, and, in fact, it is not that.”

Rather than a continuation of the broadcast series, Bateman said the new season will be “something completely different on purpose, per the format Netflix affords us and the larger story we can do.”

Episodes of the “Arrested” reincarnation will stream consecutively, each focusing on one character, with others appearing in smaller roles. With this new format, audiences can “jump from one story to another,” creator Mitch Hurwitz said, “almost a choose-your-own-adventure kind of thing.”

This is certainly welcome news for binge viewers, says Portia De Rossi who spent the summer indulging on episodes of “Breaking Bad” from beginning to end.

“People kind of are used to getting what they want now, you know,” she says. “And it was great not having to wait a week to see an episode of something that we’re really into and want to keep watching.”
