About the Event

Television Academy members and a guest are invited to an evening celebrating the next generation of performers, writers, producers, and casting directors responsible for bringing classic and iconic characters back to life.

Since the beginning of television, audiences young and old have been charmed and entertained by some of the greatest animated and live-action characters of all time. From Fred Flintstone to Tweety, Lamb Chop to Porky Pig, and more, the brilliant artists who created and originally performed these beloved characters are no longer with us ... but the characters live on!

Beginning with the loss of Mel Blanc and Daws Butler in the late 1980s, studios like Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera had to face the daunting task of finding successors to these legendary performers.

  • Had the studios even thought about or planned for the inevitable task of recasting these characters?
  • What was the process of replacing the irreplaceable?
  • What are the challenges of the current performers and producers?
  • How do the studios and creatives balance updating these characters for today's audiences while honoring their integrity?
  • What does the future hold for these classic characters?
