Walter Roy Beery

Walter Roy Beery was an actor who made several television appearances but devoted most of his energy to the theater.

The native of Salem, Ohio, originally matriculated at Ohio State University to study engineering. Changing course, he moved to New York City to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He worked as a film broker for MGM before landing a part in the original Broadway and national tour of playwright Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

He worked as a film broker for MGM before landing a part in the original Broadway and national tour of playwright Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

He later relocated to Los Angeles, where he scored roles in such series as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, St. Elsewhere, Remington Steele, The Drew Carey ShowNumb3rs and Eagleheart and the telefilm Black Widow Murders: The Blanche Taylor Moore Story.

In Los Angeles, he appeared in many productions at Theatre West, including Dancing at Lughnasa and Falling Upward, written by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury was so taken by Beery's performance that he wrote another play, Drunk and in Charge of a Bicycle, for Beery to repirse the role his Father Leary character. He later appeared in another Bradbury play, The Machineries of Joy.

Beery died in Sherman Oaks, California, on April 6, 2014. He was 75.
