Tex Rudloff

Tex Rudloff was a sound re-recording mixer best known for his work as the re-recording supervisor on director Martin Scorsese’s 1976 film Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro, and the 1978 film The Buddy Holly Story, starring Gary Busey, for which Rudloff earned an Oscar nomination.

He earned his first credit on Sydney Pollack’s They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, starring Jane Fonda, Michael Sarrazin and Susannah York. The film followed the story of a group of contestants in a marathon dance competition, and how their lives intertwined. It was nominated for nine Oscars, including a win for Gig Young as best actor in a supporting role.

He also contributed to several television movies, including 1975’s Sweet Hostage, starring Linda Blair and Martin Sheen; Little Mo; Mayday at 40,000 Feet!; and the miniseries The Sacketts.

Additionally, he worked on the films The Ballad of Cable Hogue, McQ, starring John Wayne; The Prisoner of Second Avenue; John Carpenter’s Halloween; Murder by Death; Clint Eastwood’s The Outlaw Josey Wales; Peter Fonda’s Wanda Nevada; …And Justice for All, starring Al Pacino; Night of the Juggler, with James Brolin First Family, with Bob Newhart; and Albert Brooks’ Modern Romance; and History of the World: Part I.

Rudloff worked as a recordist in the machine room on the 1955 classic musical Oklahoma! and served as president of the Cinema Audio Society and treasurer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Rudloff’s son is two-time Oscar winner Gregg Rudloff, also a re-recording mixer.

Tex Rudloff died October 10, 2015. He was 89.
