"Rowdy" Roddy Piper was a professional wrestler and performer, best known as a popular figure in World Wrestling Entertainment.
Piper was also a film and television actor, and is perhaps best known for starring in John Carpenter’s 1988 movie They Live, about a construction worker who discovers a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see aliens. His character famously quipped, “I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass … and I’m all out of bubble gum.”
Piper also appeared in the action movies Hell Comes to Frogtown, The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens and its sequel Billy Owens and the Secret of the Runes, Portal to Hell, Sci-fighters and Jungleground.
He also appeared in the television series Zorro, Superboy, Highlander, RoboCop, Walker, Texas Ranger, The Outer Limits, Mentors, Cold Case, Breaking In and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In the latter, he played a struggling wrestler named Da' Maniac in two episodes of the FXX sitcom. He also voiced the character Don John in the animated series Adventure Time.

As a professional wrestler, Piper took advantage of his Scottish heritage and appeared in the ring wearing a kilt and accompanied by bagpipe music. For years he hosted a segment on wrestling shows called “Piper’s Pit,” in which he would interview fighters and celebrities alike.
Piper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
He died July 31, 2015, in Hollywood, California. He was 61.
