Richard Coogan was an actor known for playing the role of Captain Video on Captain Video and His Video Rangers, a sci-fi adventure series that aired in the early days of television — 1949 to 1955 — on the DuMont Network.
Popular with both children and adults, Captain Video and His Video Rangers was broadcast live five to six evenings a week, and for a while rivaled the ratings garnered by TV icon Milton Berle.
Coogan played the starring role until December 1950, when, out of frustration with the show’s tight budget, he left and was replaced by Al Hodge.

In the years that followed the New Jersey native continued to work, and at different times had regular roles on the daytime drama Love of Life and the westerns Gunsmoke and The Californians.

Coogan died March 12, 2014, in Los Angeles. He was 99.
