Philip S. Goodman was a writer and director best known for directing the 1963 drama We Shall Return, starring Cesar Romero. The film followed the story of Cuban refugees following the Cuban Revolution of 1959.
He also wrote for the television series Rocky King, Detective; Profiles in Courage; Danger; Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Johnny Staccato. In 1970, he wrote three episodes of National Educational Television’s Our Vanishing Wilderness, which was one of the first series to focus exclusively on environmental issues. Additionally, Goodman directed commercials for companies including Coca-Cola, RCA and Revlon.
In addition, he helmed workshops of his plays Love Is a Candy Cane and This Notoriety Business at the Actors Studio in New York, where he was a member of the Directors Group. Later in life he returned to theater, producing A Good Man, with music by Ray Leslee. The musical was written by Goodman and was selected for the National Music Theater Conference’s 2012 season at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Connecticut.
