Lynn Anderson was a popular country singer best known for her 1970 hit single "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden," for which she won a Grammy Award in the Best Female Country Vocal Performance category.

Anderson was a prolific vocalist in the 1970s, placing more than 50 Top 40 hits on the country charts over the course of her career. She was named “Top Female Vocalist” by the Academy of Country Music twice and "Female Vocalist of the Year" by the Country Music Association. She earned seven Grammy nominations, a People's Choice Award and an American Music Award. She was also named Billboard's “Female Artist of the Decade” (1970–1980) and held the record for biggest-selling country album by a solo female artist for 27 years.

She signed her first recording contract in 1966, with Chart Records. She would also record for Columbia, Permian Records, MCA and Mercury. In 1967 she hit the top 10 with "If I Kiss You (Will You Go Away)" and subsequently became a regular cast member on ABC’s The Lawrence Welk Show. She also made television appearances on The Johnny Cash Show, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, Hee Haw, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Dean Martin Show, among others.

Anderson also tried her hand at acting, appearing in a 1977 episode of Starsky & Hutch titled “Long Walk Down a Short Dirt Road,” playing a country singer with a stalker. She also appeared in the 1979 television movie Skinflint: A Country Christmas Carol, a country-western take on the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, playing Laura Pritchet, a version of Mrs. Cratchit. She also appeared in Christmas at Sea World, hosted by Dean Martin.

Anderson died July 30, 2015, in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 67.
