John Noakes was an English television personality and host best known for co-presenting the children’s BBC magazine program Blue Peter. The series, which has run since 1958, is the longest-running children's TV show in the world. Noakes appeared from 1965 to 1978.

He also appeared on The Weakest Link, Camera Three and ITV Play of the Week, among many other British series.

During his twelve year tenure on Blue Peter, Noakes became known for climbing things — such as the 170-foot high Nelson’s Column in London’s Trafalgar Square — and caring for the show’s animals, like Shep the border collie.
