John Gavin was an American actor.

He was best known for his performances in the films Imitation of Life (1959), Spartacus (1960), Psycho (1960), and Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967).

Gavin had been on the Board of the Screen Actors Guild in 1965. He served one term as Third Vice-President, and two terms as First Vice-President. He was president from 1971-73.

Gavin concentrated on television work in the 1970s, appearing on episodes of The Doris Day Show, Mannix, Medical Center, The Love Boat, Hart to Hart, and Fantasy Island, among others.
