Jerry Perenchio was a former talent agent and producer, and was the former head of Univision, which he bought in 1992 and sold for a significant profit in 2007.

Perenchio also partnered with Norman Lear, as the head of business for Lear and Bud Yorkin’s company Tandem Productions, which was behind the TV hits All in the Family, Maude, Sanford & Son, One Day at a Time, Good Times and The Jeffersons.

Perenchio was also a pioneer in pay-per-view television, and served as a producer on the special Fight of the Century, and appeared in the mini-series The Garden’s Defining Moments, in the episode “Ali vs. Frazier.”

Additionally, Perenchio served as a co-executive producer on Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Driving Miss Daisy, which won the Oscar for best picture in 1990.

Perenchio got his start in show business as a talent agent working for Lew Wasserman. In 1963, he launched his own agency, Chartwell Artists, which represented Elizabeth Taylor as well as musical acts Andy Williams, Henry Mancini, Glen Campbell and Johnny Mathis.

Perenchio died May 23, 2017, in Bel Air, Los Angeles. He was 86.
