Jamie Zimmerman

Jamie Zimmerman was a doctor and reporter with the ABC News medical unit.

She reviewed studies, researched stories, promoted ABC’s wellness initiative and led meditation sessions for the ABC News team.

Zimmerman also aided Congolese refugees in Zambia, volunteered in a hospital in India, built classrooms in Uganda and worked on the Amazon in Peru. Additionally, she served as a United Nations Global Health representative, taught meditation at the U.S. Capitol and through The (Goldie) Hawn Foundation, trained educators and school administrators to teach meditation to children.

The UCLA graduate received the university's Charles E. Young Humanitarian Award and attended Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She was also a Rhodes Scholar finalist and contributed to the websites Sonima, MindBodyGreen and The Huffington Post.

Zimmerman died in a drowning accident on October 12, 2015, in Kauai, Hawaii. She was 31.
