Jack Genero was a director and producer whose career spanned several decades.

Born and raised in San Francisco, he made his first independent film as a student at San Francisco City College. He went on to study television and film at USC and earned his bachelor’s degree at California State University, Northridge.

In 1998 Genero earned his PhD in television and film from the Union Institute. He later worked in the film department at Stanford University for five years creating numerous documentary and news programs.

In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Television Academy, especially serving as a judge for the College Television Awards and as a member of the non-fiction and education committees.

Genero died on June 23, 2017, in Los Angeles. He was 73.

He is survived by his wife, Christine; two daughters, Jacqueline and Juliet; and four grandchildren.
