Ian Rae

Ian G. Rae was an executive who spent 43 years with News Corp. In addition, he was a journalist and producer who helped to shape the genre of tabloid television.

Rae, who spent most his life in the media industry, began working as a reporter in his native Sydney, Australia, when he was 16 years old.

He first came to the United States in 1961 as a New York-based foreign correspondent for the Australian newspapers owned by News Corp founder Rupert Murdoch. He also worked for Murdoch's papers in Great Britain.

From 1977 to 1986 he was editor of Star magazine. Moving to television, he became the founding executive producer of the Fox syndicated news program A Current Affair. The program, one of the earliest tabloid-style shows, had a significant influence on TV news.

Rae later became a producer at Fox News Channel.

After retiring from News Corp in 2002, he operated his own media consulting company.

Rae died September 10, 2014, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 78.
