Herschell Gordon Lewis

Herschell Gordon Lewis was a movie director known as the “Godfather of Gore.”

Lewis’s best-known films include Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs, A Taste of Blood, The Gruesome Twosome and She-Devils on Wheels.

He also worked as a writer on two TV movies: Bridger, starring James Wainwright, and Wanted: The Sundance Woman, starring Katharine Ross.

Lewis also taught college literature, worked in radio and produced and directed TV commercials. Additionally, he wrote several books on marketing and copywriting.

He died September 26, 2016, in Pompano, Florida. He was 90.
