Harry Dean Stanton was a character actor best known for his roles in the films Repo Man, Alien and Paris, Texas. He often played loners and offbeat characters.

Stanton also appeared in the films Cool Hand Luke, Two-Lane Blacktop, John Carpenter’s Escape from New York, John Hughes’ Pretty in Pink, How the West Was Won, The Godfather: Part II, The Last Temptation of Christ, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Green Mile, Anger Management and The Avengers.

Additionally, he appeared as a Mormon prophet on HBO’s Big Love, and had roles on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, The Rifleman, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Untouchables, Laramie, Bonanza, Rawhide, The Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, Petticoat Junction, Laverne & Shirley, Two and a Half Men, Chuck and most recently, David Lynch’s Twin Peaks reboot.

Stanton was also a singer and guitarist and performed weekly gigs at The Mint in Los Angeles. The actor got his start in entertainment performing on L.A. stages and touring as a singer with a Baptist preacher.

Stanton died September 15, 2017, in Los Angeles. He was 91.
