Gita Hall

Gita Hall was a Swedish-born model and actress best known for her role in The Gun Runners. The 1958 film, which was based on a novel by Ernest Hemingway, followed the story of a smuggler from Florida, stuck in Cuba at the time of the country’s revolution. Hall played Eva, the girlfriend of the villain played by Eddie Albert.

She also appeared in the 1958 film Wolf Larsen, based on the novel The Sea Wolf, by Jack London. Additionally, Hall appeared on an episode of the HBO comedy Getting On, about the staff of a geriatric-care wing of a California hospital. Hall played an elderly Swedish tourist who showed off her gymnastic skills while complaining about her ruined vacation.

The performer also appeared on a short-lived VH1 reality series called Old Skool with Terry and Gita. The show saw her and fellow septuagenarian, Oscar-nominated actress Terry Moore, hitting the streets to discover what was new and cool among young people.

Hall got her start in entertainment in the early 1950s, appearing in a few minor roles in Swedish films. She went on to win the Miss Stockholm beauty pageant in 1953, and became runner up to future actress Anita Ekberg for the title of Miss Sweden.

Hall then moved to Paris, where she became the muse to designer Balmain. Then she moved to New York, where she landed a contract with Revlon.

She received press in 2013 when she sued Lionsgate for using an image of her without her permission. The Richard Avedon photograph, taken for a Revlon ad, appeared during the opening credits of AMC’s Mad Men.

Hall died August 13, 2016, in Los Angeles. She was 82.
